Hi all cammers!

Hope you are all doing well. Nothing exciting happening today....But we never know what to expect. The wild dogs were found again this morning but unfortunately they were quite far in the west. It is about time we get them here again!I would also love to have a leopard here again. I will be on leave for a few days from tomorrow on. I wish you wonderful sightings and many hours of happy viewing!

7 February 2008

Good morning all cammers! Yes, it's me again!

Hope you're all still glued to your screens and enjoying every moment of " These are the days at Nkorho"! Yesterday we had a interesting happening with a zebra stallion killing a baby.I asked one of the rangers and they said it happens sometimes that a stallion will kill the babies if it is not theirs. We went there later and found a few jackal feeding on the carcass. Only a few moments later it was stolen by a hyena and that must have been what you have seen at the water. This morning they have found the Mapogos as well as wild dogs a few kilometres west of us. I so hope to get the Mapogos on camera again. We were very fortunate to have the wild dogs around the lodge as often as we did. I think they will stick around so hopefully we can show you much more of them. I just wish they want to slow down a bit as they are always on the run..... I will be back on the forum more often ....and I am looking forward to sharing this all with you. Happy camming and I will keep you updated!

7 January 2008 (sent to Ms. Charlie)

What a day we had! That poor cow ran off and we couldn't find her. So we are still not sure what happened to the calf. It is so sad. I saw her as I was taking some of our men to fix our roads. Luckily I always take my camera and video camera when I get into my bakkie and then I got that all on video. Just finished speaking to you!! Thank you for the call! Now you can tell everybody what happened. Just spoke to Andre and his report on the game drive: They had a terrific drive....Saw all of the big five. They had a huge herd of elephants with lots of young ones.Found 6 rhinos and after that they saw the the 5 Mapogo males. They were mobile going east... Lets's hope they keep on walking and they come this side. Andre then moved on and found Salaheshe(female leopard) in a tree on a young impala kill, with two hyenas under the tree. At the end of their drive they found a small herd of buffalo as well as lots of general game!!What a drive they had! I am soooo jealous! Thank you so much for your call and enjoy the rest of your day! Bush greetingsKarin

6 January 2008 (Sent to Ms. Charlie)

Thank you for your mails. Nothing really interesting happening. We just heard the wildebeest alarm calling and then I had a look to see if anything is out there, but I could find nothing "catlike". I know that our ranger, Andre was with the Mapogos just now. They are on their way back to the lodge so if anything interesting has happened I will surely let you know. They are a few km. west of Nkorho. Stompie and One Eye gone off but I am not sure where they went.

5 January 2008 (Sent to Ms. Charlie)

Up-Date: The Mapogos are back in the area:

Yesterday we had two of the Robson brothers - Stompie and One Eye south of Nkorho. It might be them that you heard. We also had a herd of elephant passing through going into Kruger. I heard from the rangers this morning that five of the Mapogos are back in the area. I would love to see them for I have only seen them once before when they came through our open area that one night.

Bush greetings

Karen

Good morning!! I am speechless....What great excitement we had this morning! I am so sorry about the raindrops on the side of the lense, I wish we could show you a better picture, but we tried to keep it dry. It was a great sighting with all the hyenas going after that one lioness. But I think there is one hyena that got a few wounds to lick. It was quite hectic! And then out of the blue I just caught that male running after the Styx females. The landies followed then two males but unfortunately they went up north. But I just heard that they are not very far from Nkorho so we just might get lucky to have them close to the camera. We will try our best to keep up with all the action. Have a great day...or to some of you...a well deserved sleep!!! Thank you for watching and for all the great comments on the forum. We love sharing this with you!!!

16 September 2007

Hi cammers!! We have the Styx pride close to the pan!! Watch out for them! Enjoy!!

3 September 2007

Hi all cammers!! Yes, you're not going crazy......it's really me again.I have been missing our chit chat lately. Have been busy but will try to get in contact more often. What great sightings we had these last few weeks...The lions, leopards, and all the rest. We were all very excited about the big five we had in less than 24 hours. Believe me it was very special to us all at Nkorho!! We hope to have rains very soon as it is getting very dry now. Oh yes, and for all of you that is concerned about the water level, we surely will not let the animals go without water and will do what we can to keep the pan full. Unfortunately we can not fill it every second or third day but be assurred, we will do whatever is possible.

Hope you have seen the baboons this afternoon...We had such fun watching them, but at times I think those "teenagers" were a little too rough on the poor babies! Well, I wish you great viewing and thank you once again for being part of our world. I just hope you all are saving......You know for what! And for those who will not be able to come and visit us, we hope to bring you as close to nature as we possibly can. Enjoy the rest of your camming!!

29 May 2007

Good day all cammers! What a lovely morning we had a the pan again this morning!! Well, first I must thank you all for watching and for making this so big and so special! This morning I have watched the video that was made yesterday morning....Aquila, thank you...I was stunned at what you did.....It makes me feel so small, to be part of such a great gift to human kind. We are loving the fact that we who are fortunate enough to be part of this, can share it with you all far away!! Oh yes, there might be a leopard around for they have found tracks and this morning all the game at the pan was frightened by something....Keep watching! Happy camming!

14 May 2007

Morning! Looking for cheetah!!!!!! Hi! Unfortunately/fortunately the cheetahs missed! Definately unfortunately we missed the cheetahs!! They had a go at the young zebra. They were very close but it just was too strong and luckily got away this time. I so wished to show you more....but soon maybe we will also be taking you "out on safari" Enjoy watching and hopefully we might have something interesting happening later on. They went north and might be spending the day there but as they always say...expect the unexpected! Happy viewing!

10 May 2007

Good morning! What a night we had last night! The Styx pride have been around for the last two days and last night they made a kill(impala) just east of Nkorho. It was their second kill in two days for they have also killed another impala the previous night(far north of us). But I don't think two impala will be enough to satisfy 6 hungry lions. I am not sure where they are at the moment but hopefully they are still around. It was great to lie in bed listening to them roaring....but also scary... I wish you many hours of happy viewing!

8 May 2007

Hello! Yes, you are right, we are currently working on the camera. We are experiencing a lot of problems...the swinging and zooming problems... Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Campbell is trying his best to get it done as soon as possible. Enjoy your viewing!!

5 May 2007

Hello all cammers! Hope you still enjoy your daily "Safari" at Nkorho. Just to let you know that we are currently busy installing a new cable, trying to better our product and to get rid of the contol problems we experienced over the last few weeks. Wishing you many hours of happy viewing!!

25 April 2007

Hi cammers! What a night!!! How was that for an African experience? This was one of the best sightings we have ever seen. The lions were hunting blue wildebeest but they were not successful this time, maybe later...... That ellie deffinately was upset and so were the lions. The elephant is quite save. I am so glad to share this with you and it is good to speak to you again. I am still reading the forum from time to time and thanks a lot for sticking with us. Enjoy the rest of the evening and may the best be still to come!

5 April 2007

Hi! I am back and it is good to be home again! I have missed the camera and all of you. We had good rains and is so beautiful and green. I want to introduce you to Gabbi, our new camera operator. She took over from me and is doing the early mornings and late afternoons. I will still be on the camera from time to time because believe me, it is not something you can just put aside......I am also addicted!! Well, I hope you enjoyed the herd of elephants and the gorgeous sunset we had tonight. Have a great time watching......and I am happy to be back!!!

15 March 2007

Good morning all cammers! Yes, for in case you started wondering, I am still well and alilve! Just been very busy the last two weeks, but I still checked everyday what you had to say. Hope you enjoyed all the sightings we had the last few days. That baby zebra is so cute! So sorry about yesterday morning that I have missed all those ducks/ geese at the pan, I so wished to see them today. Well, I will be going on leave from today and will try my best to keep up with what is happening. I wish you many more great hours of camming and please keep up with the good video capturing!! I just love watching it, thank you so much!! Take care and enjoy every moment that you spend at Nkorho! Thank you for all the positive and kind remarks, and I hope you all have started saving for your trip to do the real safari!!! And for those who can't, we'll do the best we can so we can still share our beauty with you!

4 March 2007

Hi all cammers! Hope you have enjoyed the zebras as much as I did! Absolutely amazing to see them that close! Overall we had a great Sunday afternoon. Glad I didn't take that Sunday afternoon nap!!! Sorry that I am not writing that often but things have been very busy at the lodge lately. I hope that you have a wonderful evening of good sightings to come!! Enjoy!

27 February 2007

Hi cammers! Just to let you know the "thing" you see close to the water is a log. It must have been an ellie kicking and braking the log that we have put on top of the waterpipe to hide it from the ellies. Hope you have a wonderful evening full of exciting things happening!

24 February 2007

Hello to all of you out there! Hope you had a wonderful time watching all the animals together this afternoon. That was awesome, and it was amazing to see so many different animals on one picture. Thank you for watching....and stick with us, you never know what you may see. There is just one thing that I am not happy about, when I am sleeping you get to see the "other good stuff".. The rhino and hippo!! Lucky you! I better give you my telephone number..... Happy camming and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

20 February 2007

Hello cammers! How great was that jackal sighting!! The best we've ever had on camera. I so did hope that the ellie would come and visit us today, but with the pan being filled today it is maybe better for him to stay away for a while, otherwise we just might have to fix the water pipe again tomorrow! Well, I wish you great viewing to come!!

18 February 2007

Hi all cammers! After a busy and long week end it is nearly back to normal. We had a wedding at the lodge as you know and just want to apologise for the loud party you had to listen to. But at least from partying so late, for the first time I got a nice mongoose sighting. Hope you enjoy the rest of your viewing, I am off to an early evening for the week end was quite hectic! Happy camming!!

15 February 2007

Good morning from a sunny Nkorho! Seems to me the ellie had a busy night....pulling out the water pipe. Quickly fixed it before he returns. It is the same ellie hanging around camp for more than a week now. With the marulas close to the lodge he will stick around for a while. Only had impalas this morning...wondering where the rest of the animals are. Enjoy the rest of your day/evening and wishing you great viewing!

14 February 2007

Hello all cammers! I am so sorry I couldn't show you the elephant performing but it was behind the cam tree. I don't know why it was so upset, but oh boy it was not a happy ellie. It first chased the impala and then it went after the wildebeest. Strange.... Earlier there might have been a leopard or something because the impala and wildebeest gave alarm calls, but the rangers couln't find anything. I love exciting days like today, it always keep you wondering.... It looks as if we might get some rain later on tonight for it is very cloudy. Well, I hope you have a wonderful time at Nkorho for the rest of the evening!!

13 February 2007

Hi once again. Don't know where the leopard is but all the animals appear to be calm again. Think it is Newington, a big male leopard that is being around for the last couple of days. Well, you never know what still might be happening this evening. It was a good day at Nkorho with the ellie and the buffs. Enjoy the rest of the evening and hope to share some great sightings with you all. Thank you for all the positive replies I got lately. It is just a pleasure to share all of this with you and nothing will stop us from giving you the best we possibly can, for we love doing what we do and it is great to contribute to those who love nature and especially the wild life of South Africa. Happy camming!!

13 February 2007

Hi! We have a leopard!! will get back to you later!

11 February 2007

Good morning! I have been away for a while but is glad to be back! Happy to have seen the ellie yesterday, and all the general game "camping" in front of the lodge. I have read all the things that have been said lately and I must be honest it was not nice to read. I would rather enjoy a bunch off happy remarks. I want to apologise about all the difficulties that you have been experiencing, the focus at night or whatever it may be. We try our best but unfotunately it is impossible to control the camera every minute of the day for everybody at the lodge have a job to do and we really try to have someone at the camera most of the time. At night especially it is difficult to operate till late. I just want this to be a happy place where you can go to and relax. I want you all to forget about work, stress and the difficulties of reality, so let's try not to spoil the beauty of it all. We want to share as much of our "gift" with all of you. It may happen that you will get frustrated at times for different reasons but believe me, when there is some problems with the camera nothing frustrates me more, because we want you to enjoy this. We want to take you on a quick holiday around the world, visiting Nkorho! Well I am off to the camera for a while, and I hope with all my heart to give you the best! Happy camming!!

4 February 2007

Hi! I am so glad that we are back !! We had a good day with all the animals around. Hope you haven't missed too much. I am not sure what you have seen but the ellie gave us a few good shows today. Yes, it is marula fruits in the ellie dung. I think we will get a good look at some dung beetle activities later on. It is not raining yet but the possibility is there that we might get rain later on this evening. Today we had very hot weather, some rain would be such a relief from the heat! I have seen that video of the lodge on the youtube site. Now you all have a better idea of what Nkorho is all about. It was made a few years ago, so there has been a few changes. And I am not on it, so you still have to come here to meet us all. Maybe I must just go on the deck and wave at you one day....ha ha..... Thank you so much for watching and for sticking with Nkorho!! Happy camming and I wish you wonderful sightings to come! Good morning all cammers! As I can understand you are unable to watch the camera. How frustrating! Just to say everything is fine this side. Hope they fix wavelit soon, for believe me, I so want to show you whatever I can. I even took you on the morning walk, shared my morning coffee with all of you and E & T, just to find out that I was doing it all by myself! Nothing exciting now, just the geese here. Hope that you will be "saved" soon!! Have a wonderful day/evening!

1 February 2007

Hi Cammers! Before I say anything else, I first need to apologise and explain why you have been staring at the ground for hours these last few evenings. Unfortunately we had a few power dips lately and when it happens between late evening and 5 in the morning there is no one to reset and move the camera. Really sorry about this. And once again the auto mode doesn't work when needed to switch over to night mode, so I did it manually again and hope we will be able to see clearly. Another stunning and busy day we had!! Not sure, but there might be a leopard around. We heard the impala and vervet monkeys earlier and we found leopard tracks near the pan. So, let's hold thumbs for some excitement! I am so glad that the ellie, giraffes and all other general game have been so good to us. It has been quite busy at the water lately. Enjoy watching! Hope you get what you wish for!

31 January 2007

Hi! Now how was that! One of the greatest afternoons in a long time. The ellie, baboons, giraffes, waterbuck, impala and E & T! This was so nice, and even making it better... the fact that we can share it with you. Please, if you are around, come and see what it is all about. We would love to meet you. And if you are not around...why not? Then it is time to sit down, plan your holiday and come and enjoy all of this in "real life". Thank you for watching and it is such a pleasure to share our world with all of you out there! Happy camming!!

30 January 2007

Good morning from a beautiful, sunny Nkorho! What a night you had ..... The sightings were amazing, especially the cheetah. You don't often see them after sunset. And the hyenas, elephant, our geese...great show! Something about our new super zoom I can't really explain, but it only seems to be working early mornings. Wish I knew why, because I just love it and we can show you so much more this way. Have a great day and happy viewing!!

28 January 2007

Hi all cammers. Our apologies for being down. Unfortunately we had to work on the camera to get it fixed so we can be back to normal as soon as possible. I really hope that we don't have to do this to you...or ourselves ever again!! I wish you many hours of great viewing and thank you for your patience and understanding.

27 January 2007

Hi! Just to let you know...as I speak we have technicians working on the camera. Hopefully we will have no more problems by Monday. Hold thumbs that it will be fixed soon. Will get back to you on this as soon as I can. Happy viewing!

23 January 2007

Good morning! A beautiful morning over here! It is just very quiet, not even something hiding in the bushes. I wonder where all the zebras are. I think they are tired of being nr. 1 on the lions' menu! About our very special, rare polar bear in the morning... Hopefully we won't see it for much longer because help is on the way. I don't have anything against foreighn animals, but this one needs to go!!! Wishing you a great day and if I could I would dish up the "big five one drive" !

22 January 2007

Hi all you cammers! Just want to ask you to bare with us for we are working on the cam at the moment. Trying to see if we can fix some of the difficulties we have been experiencing lately. Hope you all had a good time watching so far. We did clean off the spider webs and dust this afternoon. So, I think we will have a much clearer picture now. Wishing you an evening packed with good viewing...oh yeah...and an elephant, rhino and hippo!!! Yes, let's not forget the smaller animals. I would love to see an African Wildcat and I do miss our owl "frogging"! The moon has been very beautiful too. I love any reflection on the water...as you can tell by now because when I show you animals, half of them are walking upside down!!

20 January 2007

Hi! Yet another great day at Nkorho! Hope you all have enjoyed the impalas and wildebeest. I wished they would stay and play a bit. Just want to apologise for the spider web, but I think you would understand that I would love to just go and take it off, but it is not like house cleaning! I will get someone to help me and clean it off tomorrow morning. We have a terrible wind today. It is quite unusual weather. We had a little bit of rain last night but it wasn't much. I have also enjoyed the terrapins today, but at a stage I started wondering if it should be going out.... this is a "family channel" after all! No, just joking, it was great to see! Up to this stage one of my favourite sightings was the little falcons. I would love to see them again. I was so excited when I saw them! Well, it is always lovely to read what you say, so keep on doing so! Sorry that I don't always reply, but I always try my best to read the forum as often as possible. Enjoy the rest of your viewing and I hold thumbs for great sightings I can share with you!! I don't think the lions are around anymore. If I hear anything about them I would let you know. Yes, I was manning the camera this afternoon, and I was loving every moment of it!! Enjoy!

17 January 2007

The open area is in front of the lodge - north. The Kruger park is about 900 metres east of the lodge - when the camera pans to the right(behind the tree). When the camera is on the lodge it is facing south. Hope this can be of help. Good morning from a rainy Nkorho! After the extreme heat of the last two days this change in weather is quite nice. Just hope it doesn't keep the animals away. Would love to see an elephant again. The lions are still around somewhere behind the lodge, so they might come to the pan during the day. I will be leaving for town soon and will return tomorrow. Hope you have a wonderful day with great viewing!!

16 January 2007

Hi ! The lions are here again !!!!! Well, I don't know what to say. This has been so exciting! I don't know where they have been hiding today but they just can't seem to leave Nkorho! Just heard from our ranger that they have caught a young impala, just south east of the lodge. It is so small that I don't think it will be enough for eight lions. Wish I could get to send out a cammers' jeep!!! For watching this much you surely deserve to be the ones to sit in that vehicle Enjoy!!!

15 January 2007

Yes, it is the Stix. They were lying a few hundred metres west of the lodge for the day and started walking at about sun set. They might be hunting again soon. We just saw them changing direction and they are going to the back of the lodge. I must admit, I will be on the lookout for anything moving when I go home tonight. I might be going home soon but I wish you great sightings for the rest of the night!

15 January 2007

Hi! We just had the lions hunting in front of the lodge. They were stalking the wildies inside the camp and that was exciting, ....but also quite frightning. They chased the wildebeest all over our open area but gave up quickly. I think they are not that hungry yet, so they are a bit lazy to really hunt. Actually I am relieved that they missed, because the baby wildies are very special to us. Again just want to apolo9gise for the problems we are having. Hope it will be fixed very soon. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Enjoy your viewing!

13 January 2007

Good evening! Wow, another amazing evening watching the lions. I haven't been on the camera much today, but I ran when I saw the lions! They have killed a zebra a few hundred metres north of the lodge. It must have happened late this morning. They sure had a lot to eat ! We really are glad to share this with you. Even the small things are so pretty around us, with all the little flowers and insects too! Wishing you many hours of happy viewing and keep on watching!!!!!! You know, there's space for you all on those jeeps! Or we will make a plan....

12 January 2007

Good evening! Quickly want to share the latest happening with you all. A young zebra was just caught by a pride of lions called the Stix. The pride consists of five females and one male. It is sad but unfortunately this is nature. Hope you all have a fantastic evening packed with great viewing!

9 January 2007

Wow! What a great day we had! This has been one of our most active days in a long time. I couln't believe it when the lion just came walking down to the pan. Well, now we just have to see what the night is going to bring us. The general game viewing today was excellent, with the close ups we could get to show you as much as possible. I loved every moment of it! Just quickly want to apologise for the problems we are having with the focus on the camera. We will be getting a technician in to fix the problem. It is driving me nuts, so you are not alone....Wishing you great viewing! Enjoy it and I really hope to share some good stuff with the rest of the world!!

7 January 2007

Yes, the pride we had here was the same one that killed the buffalo on Christmas morning. It is a pride called "Three plus one". They went off into Kruger National Park which is only 900 metres east of Nkorho. Enjoy!

7 January 2007

Good evening from a very busy Nkorho. Quickly want to let you know that we have lions west of the lodge and we had the cheetah earlier just north east of the pan. The cheethas disappeared into the bushes but the lions are busy stalking giraffe. Just too bad we can not get it on camera but if they kill they maybe come and have a drink later on. Hope to get something on camera. Enjoy!!

6 January 2007

Hi! Another exciting day at Nkorho. Late this afternoon the cheetahs caught an impala north of the pan. Unfortunately it was a bit far to zoom in properly but we tried our best. Glad we could share this with all of you. My first cheetah kill on camera. The ellies were quite amazing this evening...drinking and walking off into the bushes. I just wished they would stay longer! So now you all can relax, our babies are still doing fine-the zebra and wildies. Hope you have many more hours of great viewing! Keep on watching the cheetahs might still be around.

1 January 2007

Hallo from a cold and wet Nkorho. Hope you all had a wonderful new year so far. Just want to tell you that it seems to me that we lost our injured calf today. I am not sure what happened to it but it was not with the others this afternoon. It is better like this I think. Couldn't stand seeing it like that for much longer. We had quite a good day...Did anyone spot the green grasshopper on that big green leave at the rocks? It was not very easy to spot but it was beautiful, just like our tree climbing shongololo. We all at Nkorho just once again want to thank you for watching and all the warm wishes we got. We also do appreciate it and we love sharing all of this we have with the rest of the world. It would be so nice if we could one day put a face to a name, so you better start saving. Happy viewing

1 January 2007

Hi to all Africammers HAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU. May you have a wonderful year. Thank you for all your best wishes and we hope to have a good year with great sightings to share with all of you.... How about a visit this year so we can meet ? From all of us at NKORHO.

29 December 2006

Hi to all of you! Well, I am back... and it is good to be back!I missed the camera and all of you. I couldn't believe when I heard about the lions and the buffalo. I was green.... I had a lovely Christmas with my family and I am ready for whatever might be happening! It is sad about the calf with the injury, but unfortunately nature must take care of it. It is amazing that it still going so strong, running and playing. We are experiencing very high temperatures at the moment. Hope it will be raining soon. Seems to me we are the "hospital lodge" with all the injured animals around , the wildebeest, impala and even the vulture! I hope you all have a beautiful festive season and that we will give you many more hours of happy viewing! Voorspoedige nuwejaar! Happy new year!

12 December 2006

Hi to All webcam addicts. My (Karin) typical day normally begins about 05H00 and starts off with me checking that the camera is working and that the equipment is streaming. I am also addicted as I have to check your posts of the evening before to see what I have missed during the night. In the past I normally left the camera at about 08H00 and taught school to 2 children at the lodge, but now my job description has changed and I have become the Manageress of the lodge. During the period that I am teaching the camera is normally operated by one of the rangers on duty. A rangers day starts at 04h30 and the first game drive departs at 05H00 and is about 3 hours long they then return have breakfast and take the guests on a bushwalk. After the guests return from this they spend some time in our pool admiring the game on the open area. The afternoon game drive departs at 17H00 and is out for 3 hours once again. They return have dinner under the African stars around a campfire. After school has ended for the day I once again return to maning the camera and check what I have missed during the morning session. During the evening the camera duty is shared by all parties working at the lodge. The last guests normally go to bed by 22H00 and the camera is then not maned until I return in the morning. I will be going on Leave on Friday for the Christmas Holidays and will return just before the New Year. I wsh you all many hours of great viewing. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

6 December 2006

Hi! Another great day of camming! Hope you all have seen the elephants and the herd of buffalo. Today was very hot here at Nkorho, but 2 days ago was the hottest day in weeks. It was about 41 in the shade. That buffalo calf was still very small, only recently born I think. It was great to see! About that squirrel earlier, I'm sorry but it was just to quick for me. After I got it he just disappeared and I couldn't find it again. Somebody asked about the tree behind the pan, it is a marula and they are very common in this area. The animals love eating the fruit and it will be falling down the trees very soon. We will be pumping the pan shortly . Enjoy your day and happy camming. I'll be back tomorrow morning.

5 December 2006

Hi to all of you! At last we are back again after being down for so long. Wow, it's good to be back!! What a way to start off with the three ellies. That was awesome and I must admit, I even started missing you all and reading the chit chat. Oh yes, in defence of the ellie destroying the water pipe, he has no connection to the loss of the streaming. It was something out of our control and we were just as anxious as you were, to get the problem solved. And now for the sad part, yes, there is only one wildebeest calf. We saw the cow searching and calling her calf early this morning, but in vain. We are not sure what happened, could be leopard. Unfortunately that is part of nature. Hope to make up to you with something spectacular!! Happy viewing!

2 December 2006

It was hyena and also a jackal that came drinking. The wildebeest are making alarm calls every now and again, so I will be looking if I can spot something out there. Wouldn't it be great to have a predator tonight! With all the wildebeest, zebra and impala sleeping close to the lodge tonight we might be lucky. So when is that cammers' week at the lodge? Have a great day and enjoy your viewing!

2 December 2006

Hi to all cammers! What a busy day... From the ground hornbill making a kill, the ellie bathing, wildebeest, zebra a lot of impala! Just want to apologise for the camera problems we are having at the moment. We have a power failure and are trying our best to fix the problem as soon as possible. Thank you for your messages and for watching. Hope we can make your dreams come true to show you what you wish for. Thank you all and happy viewing!

29 November 2006

Hi there! Thanks for the message. It was only a pleasure to take you on the early morning safari. We had great sightings this morning, especially the zebras and wildebeests. Did you see the brand new wildebeest calf? It is so special to see the young ones. Happy viewing and thanks again for watching! I will also share your message with the rest of the operators!

28 November 2006

About the banging sounds you are hearing, it might be big birds sitting on the satelite dish and on the higher branches of the tree. Sometimes when it is windy it also is may cause some weird sounds. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND ENJOY YOUR DAY/EVENING!!

28 November 2006

Good morning from a cool and cloudy Nkorho. Hope you all enjoyed the viewing so far today! We had nice sightings of the ellies, impala and zebras....oh yes and the shongololo! Ater reading about you wishing you could be the tourists sitting close to the ellie, that cammers trip is sounding like the best idea!! It would be lovely to have you over! Enjoy the rest of your viewing and hope to show you some more wonderful stuff.

27 November 2006

Hi to all Africam webcam viewers. I am Karin an employed at Nkorho Bush Lodge and am one of the camera operators. Our apologies for the camera problems experienced this morning. We had some technical difficulties. After reading the forum about all the questions you have about the camera operators and the lodge, here is some background to what the webcam intails. Tthere are a number of staff members operating the camera, the camera is operated by remote contol from the lodge and the pan is situated about 300 metres in front of the lodge. Blurred vision is sometimes experienced when strong winds are blowing or large birds are perching on the branches as the camera itself is situated in a tree next to the pan. Normally from about 22H00 the camera is not maned. Should you have any questions please forward them to us. We wish you many hours of great viewing. Bush greetings Karin

hi from Nkorho

We just released the Boomslang at the pan

it was in camp and decided to remove it from the immediate area

We had request before to see snakes at the camera so we decided to relaese it there. We didn't want to stress the animal by keeping it overnight.

we hoped you enjoyed it

see you next time

Ernst, Ranger and Jacques, Barmen

We relacated it for safty reasons

A bite form a Boomslang is rare, but still dangerous.

They are Hemotoxic, eg causes bleeding and the blood doesn't want to clot.

Hope it explains a bit better

Ernst, Ranger, Jacques, Trainee

Good evening all cammers! Wow, how was that leopard sighting for a treat. I think it was the same female that we got just a few hundred metres west of the lodge this morning. According to the rangers it is a female called Repape, named after the dry riverbed north of the pan. I so wished it would stop to have a drink but it was in a hurry moving in a north eastern direction. Wishing you a great day/night! Happy camming!

Hi cammers! How was that ellie sighting? It was so nice seeing all the young ones! As our guests returned to the lodge from the game drive tonight they found a leopard on our drive way. Believe me if I say I was holding both my thumbs for it to come and have a drink. Yes, it was hyena that was in the water with what we think might have been a kill that they stole from the leopard. I am not sure but it can be possible. The Styx pride are still on that buffalo kill not too far south of the lodge. If we are lucky they might come this way later this week. I am looking forward to our birding day on Saturday.Hope you all can join in! Happy camming and I will keep in touch to let you know of anything interesting happening on this side of the world! Will chat again tomorrow!

Good evening from a windy Nkorho! Firstly I want to thank all of you for making our birding day such a great day. To Fani, congratulations on your record for the most photos on a single day. The birds did us a huge favour as well as they all came around for a drink or just to show off! Wouldn't it be great if we had those two storks yesterday! We at Nkorho really enjoyed the day and we can do it again! Well, I am wishing you another eventful evening of camming and hoping that you will enjoy every moment that you spend with your "Nkorho family"!! Good night! Karin

Good morning! What a way to start the day off! I got woken by that lion roaring and I so hoped to catch it on camera but in vain. Will stick around for a while to see if we get lucky. I don't have any idea which male it is but the rangers could maybe help us later. The game drive will leave in about an hour from now on and then they will go out and search if they can find him. Will definately keep you updated on this one. How cute were those mongoose last night! First time I saw that kind of interaction too. That was really special. Well, I am quickly going back home and will be back with you shortly!! Enjoy and hold thumbs! Karin.

Good evening. What an exciting day! We had a male leopard east of the lodge but unfortunately he went in a northern direction.I was hoping that it would come  this way but luck was not on our side. It was a great sighting! Just as he came close the water(Kudu Corner Dam) three warthogs also came to have a drink. It stopped and lay down, watching the warthogs with great interest. For a moment I thought we are going to see a kill but the warthogs seen it and ran off just in time I think. It was quite a chase but then we lost them in the thick bushes. I don't think there was a kill...don't want to get too attached but I was relieved in a way because it is the same warthogs I  watch out of my office everyday! Unfortunately we didn't relocate those lions of the other night. Apparently there are a few new lions in our area. We really hope that they will come this way again. Will keep you updated. How was that porcupine of last night. I just wish I could have been there to zoom in for us. Hope that it will come around earlier  when we are still awake! Thank you for watching and for being part of Nkorho!! Happy camming and good night! Karin

Hi Kara. I have seen the photos of the lioness at EP but I do not have any idea of who she might be. I would also love to know who she is. I will ask the rangers tomorrow. That was a brilliant sighting for sure!! Wonder if she is all by herself?  It would be great if she roars again. I am jealous because I wish I could hear it! Enjoy! Karin

10 March 2008

Hi all cammers out there! So sorry about the focus. I was  not down at the the lodge but luckily I read on the forum about the problem and so I could quickly go down to fix it. Thank you so much for mentioning it! The last few days were a bit quiet and I am so looking forward to having something "catlike" again. Late this afternoon I went on a short drive close to the lodge and came across the hippo again. It was outside Kudu Corner Dam(just a few hundred metres north east of the lodge) feeding in the tall grass. I think it spent the last few days in the Kruger and then decided to return this side again....great decision!! This morning I saw two sidestriped jackal out my bedroom window. What a treat!! I will find out from the rangers the ID of the rhino earlier at EP. I sit here listening to the jackal calling...My dog is going crazy!  Enjoy!!

Good night and will speak to you again tomorrow. "Lekker slaap" ( Sleep well..in Afrikaans)!

Karin

Good  evening! Hope you had a wonderful time camming up to now! That pic of the mongoose family at EP is great! What an exceptional sighting... I asked our rangers about the rhino at EP yesterday and they think it was Utah. We had a busy day at the waterhole again. It was so good to see it like that. The zebra is still limping quite badly but I think it is not as bad as two days ago. I am going to be positive and believe that she will recover soon. We are also very lucky to have our three wildebeest calves surviving up to now. That is the first thing I do when they are around...counting the babies! What a beautiful sunset we had today....the sun reflecting in the water and all the animals having a drink. Can't ask for more or what do you say....Oh no, I'm lying....How about a leopard or cheetah drinking? Enjoy and happy camming!

Good morning from a sunny...but cold Nkorho! I am sitting here praying for some animals...lions, leopards or anything with four legs...but oh dear, they are so stubborn to come out this morning. It is really quiet, not even the jackal came around this morning. I saw a few impalas behind the bushes but they are still hiding somewhere where we can't see them. I am sorry for showing you a heap of dung but at least I thought the dung beetle will give us some activity.

Zebra...!!! I see some zebras! Hallelujah! Will speak again later. Happy camming!!

Good morning to all my friends all over the world. Just to let you know we had a young female leopard, Repape close to the lodge yesterday afternoon. One of our staff members saw her walking out of the riverbed north of the lodge. We tried to relocate her but she disappeared into thick bushes. I just heard over the radio that the rangers found fresh tracks of a cheetah close to Kudu Corner north east of us. They are following up and I will let you know what is happening out there in "the bush". Wishing you all a great day and happy camming!!

Hi cammers!Wow, what an exciting time we had with the lions around the lodge! Was lying in my bed all night listening to them roaring. At one stage I got quite scared because it sounded as if they were right next to my window.... I went to the kill this morning and I think they will be there for another day or two. I saw the first vulture and there were also two jackal busy feeding while the lions were not there. I will keep you updated on their moves. Maybe they will be returning to the water tonight..Happy camming!!

Good evening! Sorry for being so quiet lately but I am still here, don't worry....Jacques tried to fix the lights but it is difficult because he can not see where it shines and has to listen to what I say and then he is not sure how far he must move it. And being there all by himself in the dark doesn't make it easy......The lense of the one light is broken so we think it might be the reason for the dark spot. Will ask Campbell to send us a new one then Dirk can replace it over the weekend. Really sorry for the inconvenience but we will try our best to fix the problem as soon as possible. Just heard over the radio our rangers found three lionesses not far from the lodge. Hope they come this side!!! Happy camming! Karin

It is about time we get something good down there as we can see once again. Sorry about the bad light we had the last few weeks.Tried our best tonight and happy to say it looks much better, but still not 100% happy about the finger. Enjoy the rest of your "safari". Okay that light:About 11am the cam was off for 20 minutes. That was me. After I replaced the bulb it still did not work, after a battle i saw a connection on the light wiring had become undone. I fixed it and the light was working when I went down to go check a hour ago, but i see it's still not working the way it should. The only two things i can think of: if the light has moved to the left while i was fixing the the connection ore the bulb is not strong enough, the light is to weak.

Jacques

7:05pm

About 12:40pm our time, Kudus were alarm calling like mad. So Freeman and Frank felt like they have to much energy and went looking for what the alarm calls were all about. They found Ripape had walked past the wh and was at Nkorho driveway. The lion of last night has got jet shoes on he is long gone far far North from us

7:09pm

Spoke to Freeman now and he thinks it's Ripape that's in the area
